Child & Adolescent Services

The Child and Adolescent Services at Parkridge Valley recognize the need for a comprehensive continuum of care that includes acute inpatient and partial hospitalization, with networking to local professionals for on-going outpatient care.

Children’s Programs (5 – 12 years of age)

The Acute Inpatient Children’s Program provides service for children who require acute, structured, short-term hospitalization. In utilizing a “Care Team” approach, with staff dedicated to the needs of the younger patient, we are able to assist with the children and families in reaching their goals of treatment. The Acute Children’s Program provides an environment that is age-appropriate and allows the child to feel safe, interact with caring adults and to experience success with same age peers in a school and family setting.

The Children’s Subacute Residential Program is designed to help children who are having emotional/behavioral problems and are not successful in their current environment of school or home. The program works with the children to increase their awareness of destructive behaviors and how these behaviors impact their day-to-day life at home, in school or with their peers.

Adolescent Programs (13 – 18 years of age)

The Acute Inpatient Adolescent Program provides services for adolescents who require acute, structured, short-term hospitalization. “Care Teams” familiar with the struggles and conflicts of adolescence assist each teen with an individualized treatment plan. The Acute Adolescent Program provides an opportunity for teens and their families to stabilize the crisis, assess the problem areas and network to appropriate mental health professionals in their home community.

The Adolescent Subacute Residential Program is designed to help teens who have a failed history of acute inpatient hospitalization and outpatient therapy. Through a variety of therapies the teens work to increase awareness of their old patterns of behaviors, explore new ways of coping with intense feelings and situations and have an opportunity to practice their new, improved ways of coping.

In all aspects, the Child and Adolescent Services Program encourages full family participation. It is essential to have the input of the family to establish meaningful treatment goals. The “Care Team” approach places experienced staff trained in age-specific aspects of child and adolescent development to work directly with the patient on a consistent basis. The program’s professional staff includes: board certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, master’s level family clinicians, registered nurses, activity therapists, mental health workers, certified teachers and, as indicated, consulting psychologists and other mental health professionals.

We are committed to the program’s on-going development of services for the full continuum of child and adolescent care. Our goal is to provide the best specialty comprehensive evaluation and treatment services to the children and adolescents of our community and the surrounding areas.
